Michael Beasley: The One That Got Away

Pat Riley has done it again. Miami’s so-called “Godfather” has cost the Heat a star player. The Heat President drove away LeBron James and traded star point guard Mario Chalmers, but his latest mistake may be the most harmful one yet. The Heat front office completely ignored their several opportunities to sign a generational talent and Heat Lifer in Michael Beasley. They let him make his way to the Houston Rockets.

At the end of the 2014-2015 season, Michael Beasley was shining in his 3rd stint with the Miami Heat. Beas posted a positive net rating and showed his superstar potential on a severely undermanned Heat team. In the last game of the season, the former No.2 overall pick led the Heat to a victory with 34 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Going into the offseason it was clear to anyone with two functional eyes and a brain that Michael Beasley was the future of the Miami Heat franchise.

Unfortunately, Patch Ripley must be Daredevil because he couldn’t see what was right in front of him. The Heat didn’t even attempt to sign Beasley to the max contract he so obviously deserved, and let him go to China to shine for a team that appreciated his talents. “Super Cool Beas” went on to average 31.9 points, 13.2 rebounds. 3.8 assists, 2 steals and 1.3 blocks in the CBA, earning himself the honor of league MVP.

The star forward dominated the league and further proved what a huge mistake the Miami Heat front office made.

As the Chinese basketball season came to a close, Beasley was ready to make his return to the NBA and it seemed as if the Heat would get a chance to rectify the mistake they made in the past offseason.

The team had roster space and a need for a star to push them over the top in the Eastern Conference. Beasley fit the bill and was free to any team that wanted him. Instead, Pap Smiley elected to sign a washed up Joe Johnson, allowing Beasley to get away … yet again. Only this time to the Houston Rockets.

To the surprise of no sensible person (this obviously doesn’t include Pack Wiley), the basketball legend that is Michael Beasley has been dominating the NBA since his return. Coming off the bench in order to make the game at least somewhat fair on his opposition, “B-Easy” has averaged 14.6 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 55.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 89.5 percent from the free throw line.

Despite the fact that he’s clearly taking it easy on the NBA out of pity for the vastly inferior competition, Beasley is still posting impressive numbers and is on the verge of joining the 50/40/90 club.

Michael Beasley also led the Rockets to a near victory in their last game, dropping 30 points and 9 rebounds on the greatest defensive team since the All-Star break: The Atlanta Hawks.

If you somehow weren’t already aware of the magnitude of Pat Ripley’s mistake, you are now.

Earlier this season I wrote about the Mario Chalmers trade and how huge of an error it was for Pratt Zippy and the Heat organization. It’s very clear that I was right about that.

Now, I am here telling all of Heat Nation once again that the man who many of you praise to be a Hall of Fame president has made another monumental mistake that will haunt the franchise for years to come.

There is zero chance of me being wrong about this. Brat Shyley’s arrogance and incompetence is ruining this once great basketball organization and Michael Arison needs to fire him before it is too late.
